Electricity Project

Ensuring Electricity access in local Okpe Community

OkpeDafe Electric 11kva High Tension Electric Pole Replacement Project, headed by Engr Sunny Akhigbe and the Project committee

Preamble:
The aging high-tension wooden poles connecting the power lines from Igarra to Okpe have endured years of devastation from recurring fires and harsh weather, resulting in frequent power disruptions due to broken lines. Following extensive consultations, the Okpe community launched a commendable self-help initiative to replace all existing wooden poles with reinforced concrete equivalents. This project aims to safeguard lives and ensure a stable power supply for the community.

Funding and Appreciation:
Spearheaded by the OkpeDafe group, the community successfully raised 50 million Naira to actualize this project. We extend our sincere gratitude to the illustrious sons and daughters of Okpe who contributed. We especially recognize the generosity of a prominent well-wisher, Mr. Tony Elumelu, for his significant support. Finally, we give all glory to Almighty God for the provision, safety, and ultimate success of this endeavor.

Challenges;
As with most major projects, the replacement effort faced significant obstacles. Unforeseen challenges included incessant rainfall and the difficult, swampy terrain along long stretches of the Igarra-Okpe road. These factors led to unavoidable delays and additional costs associated with reinforcing the new concrete poles.

Conclusion and Success:
Despite these challenges, the project was completed on schedule in late December 2025. Following a six-month outage, electricity has now been restored to the community. With this new infrastructure, the era of "epileptic" power supply caused by broken lines is a thing of the past. This project ushers in a new dawn for Okpe, empowering locals with stable electricity and fostering communal development.
